The vision of PlasticWize is this, we envision a world with plastic-pollution free campuses, a bedrock for a sustainable future. We firmly believe that educational institutions play a pivotal role in nurturing the minds of the future, and by empowering them to embrace sustainability, we can collectively shape a sustainable tomorrow
Nigeria sits among the top 20 counties contributing to marine plastic pollution in the world. Yet from our research in 2022, we discovered that About 7 in 10 Nigerian University students have never heard about the term marine plastic pollution or do not know what it is.
Studies have identified areas with university students as a hotspot for single-use plastic overconsumption, excessive waste generation, and littering. This is a behavior we want to change.
OUR SOLUTION
Launched in 2022, PlasticWize is an innovative multi-year flagship initiative by U-recycle Initiative Africa, focused on influencing systemic and behavioral change across Nigerian universities to cut down excessive plastic waste generation and ultimately reduce plastic pollution including marine plastic pollution in Nigeria. So far This multi-year initiative has been supported by The Global Environment Facility, United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO) ChallengeWorks, Global Affairs- Government of Canada.
